Take a Look Back at 60 Years of Star Trek Today on Star Trek Day!

Happy Star Trek Day! Here’s to 60 years of Star Trek living long and prospering in every medium imaginable… and someday possibly on a Holodeck!

Today is Star Trek Day (Sept 8), which is the anniversary of the original Star Trek series premiere on the NBC network in 1966, created by Gene Roddenberry and starring William Shatner as Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Mr Spock. That humble start brought in millions of viewers, but not enough to keep it on the air more than 3 seasons before it was cancelled. Still, it became the foundation and template for what modern fandom of nearly any genre of TV and film entertainment in the decades to come. But TV and film is barely scratching the surface…

Except for possibly the most hardcore fans with memory capacity the size of Data, most people wouldn’t know that the ever-expanding Star Trek universe includes over 975 episodes across 13 series, plus 14 movies, not to mention countless novels, comic books, video games, and more. And while no new or existing series is currently in production (we’ve been there before), you can bet the future of Star Trek will boldly go with new stories and characters for as long as fans old and new want to vicariously travel to strange new worlds and discover new civilizations at home, in theaters, or in the palm of their hands.

Here’s your chance to take a look at the voyagers who have taken us to the farthest reaches of the galaxy for the last 60 years. Be sure to check out more of what Paramount+ has to share all day on the streaming network.

I have a feeling we will still be exploring new stories long into the future, preferably into the era when we’ll be able to enjoy every era of Trek in a holodeck simulation. I won’t live to see it, but here’s hoping we can transform our world into a place where our descendants will.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds is currently streaming their penultimate 4th season on Paramount+ now!
