Yes, that “Carrie”. But set in the modern age, where bullying the new kid takes on whole new dimensions. Adapted from Stephen King’s debut novel, previously adapted to film in 1976 with Sissy Spacek and again in 2013 with Chloe Grace Moretz in the title role.
The series, created by Mike Flanagan, spans 8 episodes and goes deep inside the life of a sweet homeschooled girl with a secret taking her first steps into public school life, having no idea what’s in store for her and the depths of cruelty possible by those who can’t help but abuse someone who is different. Whether this story will unfold exactly like the iconic prom night scene in the previous two films based on the novel remains to be seen, but there are clues. HOW we get there as we share more screen time with Carrie and her mother, set in the era of social media, will be what might set this version apart. I think every generation needs a version of “Carrie” to dissuade kids from bullying each other.
Here’s a peek at what’s to come when the series premieres on Amazon Prime.
Summer H Howell as “Carrie” and will arrive on Amazon Prime October 7th.
