Lucasfilm Games takes us back to fun and familiar corners of the Star Wars universe at the Game Awards 2025

While there were no shortage of big surprises in gaming when it came to the 2025 Game Awards, for Star Wars fans, we got an invite to return to the Old Republic and to try a little next gen graphics Pod Racing (separately).

Lucasfilm Games gives the most devoted Star Wars gaming fans what they wanted: Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, an online role-playing game set in the same era as the classic Knights of the Old Republic game, considered by many to be one of the best Star Wars games (not to mention online RPGs) ever made.

Expect to see Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic sometime before 2030. Maybe. You know how these things go.

What I didn’t realize was how excited fans wanted to dig back into the Episode 1: The Phantom Menace era. Sure, the Pod Racing sequences were some of the more thrilling sequences, which is why we won’t see Star Wars: Galactic Senate Meetings game anytime soon. And the previous Pod Racing-centric games were more engaging than they had a right to be. I get the impression that there will be a lot more customizability and track environments than we ever thought possible this time around. Plus, there’s Sebulba. If this is set after Episode 1, he survived the race against Anakin, which means he wasn’t kid Anakin’s first kill. Besides, is that a beard he’s sporting? I can’t tell from the thumbnail.

Watch for Star Wars Galactic Racer possibly in 2026 if the Force is with us.
