There are a few of us who remember when the Muppet Show was a variety show, starring actors and music acts only our parents recognized, including a few that only our grandparents knew from the Vaudeville era.
How in the world did that even work back in the 70s? Of course, we kids were mostly there for the wacky Muppet antics, even if we didn’t get the subtext, and eventually tuned in to see Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, C-3PO, and Chewbacca when Star Wars had to be everywhere. And while we’ve had no shortage of new Muppet movies and short-lived series over the years, some exclusively on Disney+, none of them quite recaptured the feel of what made the Muppets so special.
With a return to the iconic theater, this 2026 special looks to be bringing back the original format with Kermit trying to keep the show on track backstage, while chaos erupts on stage with a few guest celebrities, including Sabrina Carpenter and Seth Rogan (one of the producers) for starters, performing musical numbers and poking fun at celebrity, which the Muppets were created to do.
Here’s the teaser trailer to bring it all back home for you old timers and hopefully grab the interest of potentially new fans:
Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and others return to the theater and the format you know and love are set to step on stage once again for a one-off special February 4, 2026. Could it lead to more? We’ll just have to wait and see!
