Star Wars is no stranger to social and political allegory, but with Andor, it’s taken to a whole new level. Season 2 of the highly acclaimed series shows no sign of slowing down.
In fact, it’s possible to just see Andor as a political thriller, from the highest to the lowest levels of society, and forget that, without the occasional white-armored stormtrooper marching through a shot, this is also a Star Wars story.
Fans have been begging for a glimpse at the follow up season to the massively popular series for years and Lucasfilm has finally delivered with a brand new trailer with a surprisingly upbeat tone and a rockin’ score instead of the usual Star Wars orchestral flourish. The rebellion is in full effect. And even though we know the final fate of Cassian Andor (see the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), it’s still going to be fun AND traumatic to see what he does in the lead up to him playing his part in bringing hope back to the galaxy.
Diego Luna leads a first rate cast in a bid to take down the Empire (or preserve it) in a corner of the galaxy largely devoid of lightsabers, the force, or any straightforward Campbellian principles in a little less than two months.
The second and final season of Andor strikes back exclusively on Disney+ on April 22, 2025.
